So the web is officially dead now, huh? #DRM #W3C #EME
- Zorak repeated this.
-
@mmn reports of the free and open web's death are greatly exaggerated. It's a blow, but also a signal that we need to redouble our efforts
-
@rysiek @mmn only in the same sense that the dominance of companies like AOL mean that the free and open internet had died. Wait...
-
@rysiek @mmn agreed, but my point is in the end AOL et al were forced to federate properly, and let their users out of their play cages.
-
@mmn @rysiek despite certain recent events (eg #EME), I am more hopeful than ever that the same will happen to #TheStacks
-
@mmn @rysiek a year before the breaking of the Berlin Wall, nobody would have predicted the fall of the iron curtain either
-
We lost control of the internet a some time ago.
The reasons for that are multiple:
-Mass users not learning.
-The Internet architecture not evolving into something more anonymous/mesh-like like gnunet.
-GAFAM turning the web in their playground with datamining.
-Medias always giving bad/incorrect information's.
-Hardware manufacturers not releasing their source.
And more.

@mmn @mangeurdenuage yes, the #Stacks have made many gains at our expense, but "lost control" is very defeatist, and overstates your case
