We've talked about this on #github, but one of the main reasons that I want to see the "disable replies" feature implemented is to push back on the sentiment in your toot.

I *really like* random people offering me advice/criticism. I very strongly hope that the Twitter-style stigma against replyguys/"randos in my mentions" doesn't catch on here. I think the best way to do this is to be able to disable replies—a feature I doubt I'll ever use

@write_as is trying be be one (though I've seen a number of people advising waiting until the release their source code; they've promised to become open source but aren't right now)

It's also very easy to self-host a blog with a static site generator. I love #gutenberg, but people also like #hugo or #Jekyll. And #Netlify provides good, free hosting for static sites. (#gitHub pages too)

Oh, right! I'd forgotten that you were building this all in #rust. I just checked out your site's repo on #gitHub, and it's amazing how concise the server code is. I'm sure the external crates help a lot, but still!

@puffinux Sorry to thwart you, but it was based on how many of your toots I'd favorated, so your attempts to game the system are futile!

It wasn't that hard at all; the #mastodon API is pretty well documented. I'll clean up the script a little and throw it up on #GitHub later this week.

You're talking about how awesome some software is with a friendly group of folks on Mastodon, and someone links to a #github issue—which reveals that one of the friendly strangers you're talking to is the primary maintainer of that awesome software!

…just, you know, hanging out in your mentions, helping users make the most of the software.

#GitPub is a decentralized federation protocol based on the W3C's #ActivityPub, which extends #ActivityStream 2.0. It provides a server to server API for pull request, forking and subscription of repositories provided by #Git web services (services like #GitHub, #GitLab, #Gogs, #Gitea)... Do we need more takes on the #Microsoft #GitHub acquisition? Well...

The average FOSS dev doesn’t have a lot new to worry about here, IMO. GitHub wasn’t ever a not-for-profit, people were already worried about over-centralisation.

However GCE, IBM, Oracle and other small cloud providers should be very worried. The entire “MS ❤️ OSS” strategy has been about driving Azure adoption. Every foothold they gain in the ecosystem will be used to steer towards that. Bad news for cloud competition.
