codesections (codesections)'s status on Thursday, 29-Aug-2019 12:05:44 UTC codesections > So my little Gentoo adventure has been completed. … Im thinking about doing Arch now as a lightweight tiling os over Gentoo.
If you're considering other options, I've been really enjoying #void for the past few weeks. I'd also like to check out #guix some time (and still want to try #gentoo sometime. And maybe even #LFS one day…)

codesections (codesections)'s status on Sunday, 18-Aug-2019 16:36:41 UTC codesections > install gentoo
I've thought about it! This computer is a relatively under-powered laptop that I mainly use to SSH in to my old computer (it has hardware issues but still works via SSH; long story). So #gentoo might not be the best fit.
But my (eventual) plan is to build a desktop to SSH into, and I'm leaning toward Gentoo or #guix for that machine

codesections (codesections)'s status on Wednesday, 31-Jul-2019 15:02:13 UTC codesections Ok, just went through a bit of a right of passage I'd somehow doged until now: my WM hard crashed durring an #arch update, leaving me with an unbootable kernel.
A few hours (and a few boots to a live USB) later, and I'm back in and have restored the damage with no data lost. But it's (another!) wake up call that I need to be better about backing things up (and maybe find a WM that doesn't crash…)
And yes, #guix folks, I know this wouldn't have been an issue with your distro :D

codesections (codesections)'s status on Monday, 22-Jul-2019 23:03:48 UTC codesections I'm reading through the #guix manual, and just realized something (I think):
The way Guix sets up `substitutes` means that I could compile everything from source on my powerful desktop* and then set that as a substitute for my laptop—which would then pull down the binary packages from there.
(*NOTE: I don't have a powerful desktop, but I have hopes/plans to get one)
This seems like it's pretty close to the advantages of #gentoo without (as much of) the pain!

Mike Gerwitz (mikegerwitz)'s status on Friday, 21-Jun-2019 03:04:47 UTC Mike Gerwitz I decided to occasionally pop back onto IRC when I'm free at night. I miss the real-time chat, but I don't often have time for it.
Catch me on freenode, nick mikegerwitz. I'll be in #gnu, #fsf, #guix, and some others. -
codesections (codesections)'s status on Saturday, 06-Apr-2019 12:32:02 UTC codesections Have any of y'all tried out #guix or #guixSD? (Or have thoughts about it)
I hear they're getting pretty close to a 1.0 release

David Hunt (davehunt)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Mar-2019 02:17:57 UTC David Hunt At times and places where/wen I'm feeling triggered or microagressed (that's probably not a word), I can't stand talking about how I use the computer and accessibility, but, A #libreplanet conference is not one of those occasions, so, I'd better fire up org mode, and get started on the outline; Hahahaha. Yep; I've been to several LP conferences and, perhaps, to your talk on #GNU #Guix? I know your name and voice; perhaps we've shaken hands and exchanged pleasantries? Next LP is a year away; I hope you and I can chat sooner. -

Christopher Lemmer Webber (cwebber)'s status on Tuesday, 24-Jul-2018 13:51:26 UTC Christopher Lemmer Webber @jboy It worked out quite well for me. It should work out even better with the new "guix pull" :)
As we're discussing on freenode's #guix channel right now, it would be even better for Debian users if we got a Guix package package available so Debian folks could just apt-get install guix

ng0 (ng0)'s status on Saturday, 30-Dec-2017 08:24:50 UTC ng0 Among many other productive things in the last days, I will:
- mentor someone who'll build a Docker #Guix package (Docker itself from source, not an image)
- finish Buildbot for Guix and #GuixSD
- Give the gnunet shepherd service another try and work on it with other GNUnet hackers in one location later in 2018.More to be posted in a blog post

ng0 (ng0)'s status on Tuesday, 26-Dec-2017 15:31:32 UTC ng0 @kkebreau #Debian has 25034 in stable, by external statistic tool counting. Of those 25034, 9066 (so 44.9%) are supposedly up to date.
In #Guix we have:
Number of packages: 6780
Number of outputs: 7074
(which might or might not take my own repositories in counting), external stats say 5971. Of those 5971 3025 are supposedly up to date, so 61.2%.
